Fredkin's Self Replicator (for Edward Fredkin) is a cellular automata where only the four neighbors along the north, south, east and west directions are counted (the "von Neumann neighborhood"). If a cell has an even number of neighbors that are on, then the cell will turn off. If a cell has an odd number of neighbors that are on, then it will turn on.
